The Peabody Diversity Course project was developed to provide graduate students in EDUC 3050: Adv. Social & Philosophical Aspects of Education (a required masters-level course for licensing secondary education teachers) an opportunity to practice their communication skills.
CELA also provided the ability to develop a pilot project and subsequent research project data for a doctoral dissertation. She did a pilot project using prewritten cases in the fall of 2013 with another doctoral candidate to see how the process worked and then created cases to fit her specific needs in the fall of 2014.
Three cases were developed and standardized patients played the role of either parent or co-worker. The class of 33 graduate students saw all 3 cases over the course of 3 event dates in September and October 2014. Outcome data is in process.
